Blogs have been around since the beginning of the public internet in the 1990s.  They are a series of entries on a particular web page usually on a particular topic.  According to “Creation of Library Blogs” by B. Ravi, “Blogs are [a] place to disseminate and also [a] place to get the feed back of library resources more frequently and more effectively … A good library blog is a long term commitment.  A clear scope, a well defined audience, a professional look, and regular maintenance required” (pg. 268).  Library blogs can be very informative if done correctly.  One of the better examples of a library blog is the Ann Arbor District Library’s.  The Ann Arbor District Library’s blog is integrated into their home page so that when patrons visit their website they can view the blog posts.  While other library blogs are usually used as a supplement on a separate webpage.  Patrons can view information about events at the library, “Download of the Day”, special film collections, books, and much more.  Users can comment on the posts and others can view these comments as well.  This shows that the Ann Arbor District Library respects their patrons’ comments by allowing the other users to view them.  These are all very good things about library blogs.
